Emotional Wellbeing Through Perimenopause

Perimenopause is a profound transition — not just a hormonal shift, but a deeply personal experience that touches the body, mind, and sense of self. Many women describe this time as confusing or overwhelming, not because they are “failing to cope,” but because their inner world is changing in ways that deserve understanding, gentleness, and support.
As hormones fluctuate, the nervous system can become more sensitive, and emotional patterns that once felt manageable may suddenly feel amplified. Women often notice:
Anxiety — a sense of restlessness or worry that seems to come from nowhere
Mood swings — quick shifts from irritability to sadness or overwhelm
Low mood or depression — a heaviness, loss of motivation, or feeling unlike oneself
These experiences are not imagined. They are real, embodied responses — and do not have to be navigated in isolation.

A Compassionate Space to Be Seen
As an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I offer a warm, grounded space where you can explore what this transition means for you as a whole person — not just a set of symptoms.
My approach is holistic and relational. I don’t treat you as a problem to fix, but as a human being whose body, emotions, history, and inner wisdom all matter. Together, we look at how perimenopause interacts with your life story, your relationships, your stress load, and your sense of identity.
Therapy during this time can help you:
Make sense of what you’re feeling
Understand your emotional patterns with compassion
Develop tools that support your nervous system
Reconnect with your strengths, needs, and boundaries
Feel less alone and more empowered in your experience
An Integrated, Holistic Approach
Rather than relying on one method, I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities and weave them together in a way that fits you. This integrative approach honours both the science of the body and the emotional truth of your lived experience.
Mind–Body Awareness
We explore how your body communicates through tension, fatigue, or emotional surges. Gentle grounding, breathwork, and somatic awareness can help regulate your nervous system and bring a sense of steadiness.
Compassionate Cognitive Work
Together, we look at the thoughts that arise during emotional shifts — not to judge them, but to understand them. We gently challenge unhelpful patterns and create space for more balanced, self-supportive perspectives.
Mindfulness and Presence
Mindfulness helps you meet your emotions with curiosity rather than fear. It teaches you to pause, breathe, and respond rather than react, creating more room for calm and clarity, appreciating the power of your being.
Psychoeducation with Heart
Understanding what is happening biologically can be incredibly relieving. I offer clear, accessible information about hormonal changes and emotional responses, helping you feel more grounded and less confused by your symptoms.
Emotional Expression and Validation
Many women carry silent grief, frustration, or shame during perimenopause. In therapy, these emotions are welcomed, honoured, and understood — not dismissed. Being truly seen can be deeply healing.
Supporting Yourself Day to Day
Alongside therapy, small daily practices can make a meaningful difference:
Moving your body in ways that feel good
Nourishing yourself with foods that support energy and mood
Creating a sleep rhythm that feels restorative
Staying connected with people who uplift you
Journaling to process emotions and track patterns

You Don’t Have to Navigate This Alone
Perimenopause is a natural transition, but that doesn’t mean you must endure it in silence. With the right support, this phase can become a time of reconnection, clarity, and even renewal.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, confused, or simply curious about how therapy might support you, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, warmth, and a holistic understanding of your personal experience.
